Vocational Nurse Program
The objective of the Vocational Nurse is to provide care for the sick, injured, convalescent, and the disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses (RN). LVN’s provide basic beside care. They take vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. They also treat bedsores, prepare and give injections and enemas, apply dressings, give alcohol rubs and massages, apply ice packs and hot water bottles and monitor catheters. LVN’s observe patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments. They collect samples for testing, perform hygiene, keep patients comfortable and care for their emotional needs.

The combination of introduced skills taught in this program, will prepare students for the ever-changing field of nursing and health care. Students study fundamental principles and practices of nursing, anatomy and physiology, infection control, asepsis and patient care skills, pharmacology, nursing process and health care of client throughout their life span and in addition to their clinical rotations, students also have the opportunity to practice their skills in the clinical skills lab. Clinical skills competency will be assessed at the completion of Pharmacology and the completion of each level.

The Vocational Nursing program is a 1564 hour course, which consists of four levels. Here’s a list of some of the subjects you’ll receive training in:

  • Observe labor and delivery.
  • Perform post-partum and newborn care when possible.
  • Participate in Mental Health group therapy.
  • Administer medications per MD order in the presence of instructor.
  • Assist with admission and discharge procedure.
